A great opportunity has arisen in our Calgary office as an Analyst within our Commodity Markets and Finance division to support the Structuring and Chief Operating Officer teams. From these teams there are opportunities to move into either a trading or sales role or to further your career elsewhere in either the Commodity Markets and Finance division or Macquarie more broadly.
As part of your role supporting the Structuring team, you will work alongside sales and trading to value and structure complex transactions with a primary focus on natural gas. You will contribute to the business’ bottom line by building ad-hoc spreadsheet tools and assist with larger M&A transactions and pricing other commodities such as power, oil, uranium and more.
Using your strong analytical and technical skills, you will analyse and calculate various exposures to credit risk, market risk, operational risk, and legal risks and liaise with these teams to deals approved internally. This is a highly visible role in one of our most profitable teams that will allow for growth and experience within our dynamic commodities business.
As part of the COO team your role will be dedicated to working with CMF businesses and support areas to ensure that businesses operate efficiently and effectively to meet CMF’s strategic goals. The team supports day-to-day operations and helps find solutions for operational, commercial, and strategic issues facing the business. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing middle office support to the various trading desks to ensure deals, risk positions and P&L are both completely and accurately represented in trading systems
- Managing the high-quality execution of strategic initiatives and projects
- Protecting CMF from Operational Risk by actively identifying exposures and seeking to mitigate them
To be successful in this role you will have the ability to thrive in a fast paced and challenging work environment where you can utilize your strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and organizational and problem-solving skills.
To be consider for the role you will have:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field (e.g. Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or Computer Science)
- 1-5 years of relevant work experience in financial services or commodity trading (structuring or natural gas market knowledge is additive)
- A basic understanding of programming languages such as VBA or Python
- A basic understanding of commodity markets including operations, logistics, derivative pricing, hedging and settlement
