SVP, Business Development, Physical Oil and Products


Join Macquarie’s Commodity Trading Team as part of the Physical Oil Business Development team. In this role, you will drive the management, development and promotion of physical commodity opportunities, based on deep analysis and understanding of the dynamics of the market. Your focus will be originating and managing Macquarie’s role in supporting upstream, midstream and downstream physical solutions across logistics modes (vessels, barges, rail, blending) for assets across the Americas, actively coordinating with the trading books and offices worldwide.

In this role, your primary function will be to originate and commercialize client-driven and trader-specific physical commodity solutions across heavy crude oil, light sweet crude oil, condensate, products (gasoline, jet, diesel) and NGLs (C2+, C3+)/spec products (ethane, propane, butane, condensate)) to maximize risk-adjusted returns and optionality for Macquarie’s physical commodity trading business.

You'll ensure that commodities get to market across multiple logistics modes (barges, vessels, rail) and manage/mitigate infrastructure risks (ports, storage, railways) to minimize cost exposure and utilize excess capacity.

Working across the organization, you'll develop strong interpersonal relationships, integrating with Macquarie Bank Limited (financial derivatives coverage, lending facilities), Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (Physical Asset Investment), and Macquarie Capital (equity and debt financing), internal control groups (Legal Risk Management, Risk Management Group (Credit, Market), Market Operations Division) to drive negotiate and close commercial transactions with external clients.  You'll meet regularly and engage in ongoing communication with internal trading and business development teams to determine short, medium and long term opportunities to facilitate transportation or storage capacity at various locations and to provide market/pricing information and market intelligence and support middle and back office in contract and document negotiation including approvals, accounting and invoicing.

In this role you'll be relied on for your subject matter expertise, and need to remain up to date on legal, compliance and economic issues affecting the hydrocarbon and financial services industry.

You will bring to this role:

  • a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • a minimum of 10 years’ experience in Crude/Products/NGL oil trading and/or origination
  • experience in trading or delivering client solutions in physical and paper in crude and products markets
  • lead negotiations for required service with third party providers
  • strong Financial derivative understanding / expert
  • strong analytical capabilities and communication skills
  • have a global view of the international market and deep local knowledge within each of the targeted jurisdictions
  • ability to model economics of projects. Work with financial analysis team, as necessary
  • strong knowledge of financial commodity markets and experience trading and origination in this market
  • capability to develop new business opportunities
  • familiarity with North American infrastructure, and experience with contract negotiations in rail, pipelines, terminals and fractionation plants
  • strong knowledge of international crude oil, product and natural gas liquid flows and market dynamics
  • knowledge of upstream activities and refinery processes
  • derivatives management experience
  • multi-lingual language capability will be valued but not required.
